At Adams, food safety is an ongoing commitment- not a trend. The supply chain is controlled in all areas and managed by highly qualified professionals within Adams and PRO*ACT who work closely with our growers to the customer. Through the PRO*ACT system, suppliers and distributors meet stringent food safety and security standards. These standards are risk based and continue to evolve to conform to best practices adopted by the leading industry associations. Ongoing compliance with standards is verified and documented. Suppliers and distributors are inspected by approved third-party auditors and required to have food security programs in place.
In times of crisis, Adams dedicated Food Safety Team works with PRO*ACT’s Crisis Management Team, who is uniquely positioned to respond rapidly to any recall or trace back situation nationwide. The Crisis Management Team communicates all relevant produce-related outbreaks to Adams who conveys all necessary plans of actions for each applicable situation.
Key Points of our Program are:
- Multiple “Third-Party Audits” for each location occurring throughout the year (examples: Cook and Thurber, Siliker, AIB…)
- Supplier/Source Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs)
- Supplier/Source Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
- Food Security Plans; Carrier and Distributor Cold Chain Management
- FoodTrack Alert System Monitoring and Communication
- PRO*ACT’s Food Safety Inspections of Field, Cooling, and Packing Operations
- Quality Assurance (Field and Cooler Teams) Communication
- Recall Capabilities
The purpose of defining the level of recall is to initiate procedures that identify conditions that warrant recall actions. The objective of the recall plan is to identify and locate all products within a four hour period. The rapid determination of the seriousness of the problem will drive the key recall action steps. The recall team leader and team will review the product and customer conditions to define the recall alert level classification. This area incorporates the following components:
- Involves health hazard,; label violation,; or quality issue
- Determine isolated incident or widespread
- Determine if testing of product is required
- Correctly identify the product and quantity involved
- Conduct physical inspections to confirm reports
- Identify product current national distribution
- Obtain suppliers/Vendor processing or ship dates for product
- Identify supplier company name and shipping location
- Direct all information back to the recall team leader
